EUDI moves from vision to real implementation
“This year’s Trustech conference delivered a clear message: the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI) initiative is entering a new, more concrete phase.”, said Aleksandrs.
After years of defining frameworks, standards, and use cases, 2025 marks an important shift toward real applications and upcoming large-scale testing in 2026.
The original four initiatives (POTENTIAL, EWC, NOBID, DC4EU) have now consolidated into two major Large Scale Projects (LSPs):
– Aptitude (France);
– WeBuild (Italy).
This consolidation is a positive sign – the direction is clearer, governance is streamlined, and the ecosystem is aligning behind coherent implementation strategies.
One of the standout talks came from Florent Tournois, presenting the French-led Aptitude project. He showcased how France is already demonstrating a tangible model of what an EUDI wallet experience might look like, based on the existing France Identité app – developed by France Titres.
The app already supports:
– Verified Digital Identity;
– Mobile Driver’s License (mDL);
– Vehicle Registration Document.
This provides a real-world preview of how credentials could coexist and function inside the future EUDI wallet.
For industry players like X Infotech, this evolution is highly encouraging: the market is maturing, expectations are clearer, and opportunities for integration and innovation are rapidly expanding.
